About Oni Daiko (drums) It is said that Sado Oni Daiko were handed down to Sado about 500 years ago, and the Noh Dance was perfected into its current form with the distinctive and sophisticated drums and unique choreographies of various places. It is said that there are 120 pairs on the whole island. Oni daiko is dedicated to shrine festivals in order to pay off demons, bring in prosperity in business, and pray for rich harvest. Oni daiko come in various forms depending on the village such as one with onis only, one with a Shishi, one with a priestess, one with a monkey, and one with the ritual of throwing beans.
